Abstract

Ideas surrounding regenerative agriculture are gaining increasing importance worldwide due to their relationship with the agrifood sector, human health, biodiversity, and the sustainability of ecosystems and the landscape in general. The objective of this article is to analyze the scientific basis of regenerative agriculture. The methodology is a systematic review of the main scientific bases reported in the last 5 years related to regenerative agriculture internationally. Scientific articles available in English and Spanish in the Elsevier, Scopus, ScienceDirects, and Redalyc databases were consulted, using the keywords: regenerative agriculture and scientific bases of regenerative agriculture. The results analyzed the scientific bases on soil health, carbon sequestration, biodiversity loss, landscape, location, animal integration, and microbiology. In conclusion, regenerative agriculture encompasses a series of practices that prioritize soil regeneration as a premise for promoting the overall structure of the ecosystem.
